Shaping Ceramics: Lucie Rie to Edmund de Waal

In the mid 20th century Jewish émigré ceramicists revolutionised British studio pottery, importing modernist ideas from central Europe and creating work that was sleek, sophisticated and cosmopolitan. Lucie Rie, Hans Coper, Ruth Duckworth and Grete Marks produced simple and imaginative designs that were avant-garde for their time. Shaping Ceramics explores the work of these pioneering ceramicists and traces their influence on subsequent generations of ceramic artists whose Jewish heritage has shaped their work.

Julia Weiner (PG Dip 1990/ Head of Education in the Galleries 1990-2002), who co-curated the exhibition will give a guided tour of the exhibition for alumni and members of the Courtauld Jewish Society.

Tickets cost £6 (£5 concession). Please RSVP to alumni@courtauld.ac.uk.
